Drawn in

It’s best you breathe the night air slow;

your lungs will crystallize

if you pant

Rest the tip of your tongue

before it solidifies

into a leaping porpoise statue

Give the night its time

and the muses their silence

they scribe in frost

and show us the way

back to the hearth.

  1. oh, this is lovely! and I had to chuckle over the porpoise-tongue image – unexpected and yet apt! very good!

    • Thanks! If only you knew how much I wish I had time to photoshop that image! I struggled with putting that line in there, but there’s just no other way to say it so perfectly.

  2. Adored how the general dark mood is brightened by the last lines ‘and show us the way back to the hearth’. Enjoyed it, thanks for sharing. 🙂

  3. I was taken by the sudden imagery as well…jarred even.

    Happy New Year to you, hope the winter treats you well.
