More than Eyes

We were young,
We saw the world with more
Than just eyes.
We stopped resisting
And peeled back our skin
We made promises under our breath
That we wouldn’t forget this
With the view of birds,
We flew upside down for awhile
To see the sky much closer
There was strangeness and we loved it.
Between us there was a connecting string
Made out of understanding

Now we have tried to love
And we’ve become angry people
We might’ve broke those promises
We found gold
And put it back in the dirt.
